Liss! Tell me how the brand came to be?

Blissfully Liss Jewelry was created in 2012 with a mission to create unique and affordable pieces for the typical bohemian, beach girl. Each design in my collection is handmade by me! I grew up by the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey so my style has always been very laid-back and beach-inspired. My friends and family call me Liss for short so that is how Blissfully Liss came to be!

My initial struggle in creating my brand was probably finding my own jewelry style. It's tough to get caught up in the trends and what other artists are doing. I always get inspired by others but it took me a bit to find my own personal style for my designs.

I think designing pieces I actually wear on a daily basis helps with staying true to myself. My style is a mix of bohemian and beach-inspire. I constantly use a lot of natural stones and vintage-inspired charms in my designs. It's fun to find components, stones, charms, and chains that fit nicely together to create something unique and new! I am always thinking of fresh ideas and new ways I can combine colors together. Some designs take minutes while others take days to perfect. I think it's very rewarding when I come up with a design with a lot of thought and time and people end up loving it! Yes, there are days where I struggle with my imagination but as soon as I get inspired I can get something going!

I am constantly learning and growing in my creative ability and business endeavors. I know I will be doing this for the rest of my life because it is truly a great passion of mine. Not only am I driven, but I am also very kind and compassionate towards others. I love treating people how I would like to be treated. I never judge anyone as everyone has their own struggles and lives. I am always changing and growing as the years pass by but I will always have a love for people and the world as those are my true inspirations everyday. 

My business is all run by me! I'm a one-woman girl boss at the moment! Starting from scratch: I source the materials and components I want to use, I design and put together pieces with my own hands, I price my designs out for wholesale and retail, I photograph them for my website, I write detailed descriptions and create unique product names, I promote on Instagram and other social media, and lastly I package and ship orders. The cycle just continues! I would love to eventually grow and have a small team but for now, I love doing all the steps myself. Owning this online business has taught me so much over the years about responsibility, passion, work ethic, computer skills, photography skills, and more. I have become the woman I am today because of my small business!

My inspiration comes from absolutely everywhere! From the beach to the city to people wearing color combinations that catch my eye....everything inspires me no matter where I am. Sometimes I may get an idea when I'm on the train, on a walk or just scrolling online! I jot it down so I remember it later. It's always good to never stop being creative. I love getting inspired throughout the day. Traveling also inspires me a lot. I have lived in California for 4.5 years now and I definitely get inspired by everyday things like the ocean, plants, buildings, etc. As for photography, I do all of my own product shots. I use both my iPhone and DSLR camera. I love to photograph outside as natural daylight is the best lighting you can get!

A quote that inspires me and my brand is "Follow Your Bliss". Not only does it go along with my brand name, but it really connects with me to follow what makes me truly happy. I always design pieces that I LOVE and that I want to wear myself. I follow this quote in both my business life and regular everyday life. Some people forget about their own happiness and you really need to keep following what sets your soul on fire! You create your own happiness and Bliss...no one else!

A way to connect with my fans/customers is by social media. I use Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and even Pinterest! Having these outlets are amazing because I can reach customers from all over the world! Whether it's someone who likes my vision or they actually want my pieces. I also love how social media connects us to other artists and girl bosses around the globe! I have met so many incredible and talented women by using these social media platforms. In a world of competition, it's really nice to have girls supporting girls throughout each other's journey. I am a huge advocate for supporting other small businesses as much as you can! 

 

WEARING HER OWN CREATIONS!

One thing I have learned along the way is to stay true to yourself and go at your own pace you are comfortable with. I have grown so much over the years little by little and I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't push myself too hard where I am stressed. I feel when you are stressed, your creative ability lessens. You really need to focus on your visions and keep getting inspired by daily, everyday things without overthinking. I haven't even explored this whole world yet...there is so much inspiration out there I have yet to see! I look forward to evolving and learning new things every day that can help me along my creative journey.

My message to anyone who wants to create their own jewelry and sell it.......you need to do something DIFFERENT. Many people have the same designs out there on the World Wide Web. But what is going to make someone buy your jewelry versus the next designer? You need to find your own unique style and an audience will come with it. Never give up and keep pushing. There is so much to learn with jewelry design and there are endless possibilities!
